Across the series, Rowling combines the rhythms of a British school story with mystery, fantasy adventure, friendship, and an increasingly serious conflict about power and prejudice.

The core sequence begins with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and ends with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Companion stories and later stage works are related to the same world but are not part of these seven novels.
